It being Christmas Eve and all, I was thinking of this Christmas story and drew it up. I meant to draw it nicer, but didn't get time. It's about family.

A Scottish cartoon, since I am back home for the holidays.
I'm well acquainted with the tune "Lord Lovat's Lament," since you hear it around these parts every time anyone has to pick up a fiddle and learn something. But you know, it's one of those tunes you know so well, you pay no attention to it, it's just there in the back of your head.
Then one day, I was looking up a bunch of works by Hogarth (the best) and came upon this portrait of 'Lord Lovat'. The lovely old tune and that devily face, they didn't match. So I wanted to learn more about him!
Lovat (Simon Fraser, born 1697 - there are about a million Simon Fraser Lord Lovats) really epitomizes how reading Scottish history can make you want to tear your eyeballs out, or laugh because it's nearly a farce it's so nutty. Either the people involved are disastrously loyal, or disastrously duplicitous. Everything is a disaster, but it's a hell of a ride. |

| Holiday Hellventure |

I entered the PDX airport at around noon yesterday. I didn't arrive in South Carolina until 3 in the afternoon today. Thanks, holiday delay hellventure! Luckily L. was on the same delayed flight as me, so we managed to keep each other company.
I'm tired and grumpy, but I'm also looking forward to visiting old haunts and catching up with the Carolinians. I already have plans with Tori-kins and Rah for later in the week.
Over at A is A, I have a brief status update on thesis and location, a winter reading list, and a request for more book recommendations. Seriously, recommend me some books. I'm out of video games and I need to butcher time this winter.
Also, I have Skype now. Ask me about it and I'll give my contact name. Then we can talk on video conference like true businessmen. |

After 430 pages of reading and 19 pages of writing, this exam week is finally over. Now I have two days to chill the fuck out.
I'm going to decompress for the next few hours. I wish my apartment had a friendly dog. Or at least enough hot water to draw a real bath.
Instead I'm just going to watch The Tudors until my brain turns to warm mush. |

I've written 8 out of the 12 pages that stand between me and winter break. As I'm working a shift between 2:30 and 5:00 in the library this morning, it seems likely that I might finish a first draft of this paper by sunrise. Then all I have to do is edit it, print it and other 3 short papers I wrote out, and turn them all in tomorrow. A day early. So that I can have an extra day of vacation.
The actual due date for this paper is Friday at 9 PM. I don't think I've turned in a final project this early for a very, very long. If ever.
Maybe the key to prevent myself from procrastinating is to just constantly set up small rewards to motivate myself. Dinner out. Hookah. A drink at Putter's. Quality time with my gentlemen friend.
It seems to have worked.
I'm going to take a nap before my circ desk shift. The next time I post to LiveJournal, hopefully it will be something celebratory. |
